On Wednesday night, the Lady Musketeers continued to make history as they brought home two individual sectional championships! Junior Sidney Burton remained undefeated after winning the #1 singles title (6-1, 6-0) to become Eastern's 3rd Individual Singles Sectional Champion joining Mindy Smith (1988) and Aarin Nelson (#1997). In #1 Doubles, Juniors Anna Dupin and Eliza Starrett mounted an amazing comeback after losing the first set to New Albany's doubles team. The tandem dug deep to win set two forcing a decisive 3rd. After leading the 3rd 4-1, the Lady Bulldogs tandem battled backed and the set ended in a 6-6 tie forcing the 7 point tiebreaker. In the Tiebreaker, Dupin and Starrett pulled away for an historic win, becoming Eastern's first Doubles team to win a sectional title. These champions will travel to Indianapolis North Central on Saturday, June 7th to compete in the IHSAA individual tennis Regional at 10 am. Burton (16-0, 4-0) will play Holly Wyland (14-5, 2-0) from Northeast Dubois in round 1 of the South 1 pool. If she wins, she will play the winner of Kameron Knight (12-2, 2-0) from Evansville Reitz and Brynn Owens (14-2, 2-0) of Austin in the Championship at 2:00 Her teammates in #1 Doubles, Dupin/Starrett (10-2, 4-0) will pay Grace Carie/Caroline Beard (20-1, 3-0) of South Knox. If they win, they will also play in the Championship of the South 1 pool at 2:00 against the winner of Gibson Southern and Batesville #1 doubles teams. Winners of Regional pools will advance to the State Finals on June 13th and 14th at Park Tudor in Indianapolis.
