While Eastern has had some girl wrestlers in the past who have held their own against male competitors, including Courtney West, who was a regional qualifier against the boys. However, this year is the first year for girls wrestling sanctioned by the IHSAA, where girls will compete in their own division. Last night Jazzmen Grangier made some history for Eastern High School as she became the first girls wrestler to compete in the inaugural season of IHSAA sanctioned 'girls' wrestling. Teammates from the boys and girls teams were on hand to watch as Jazzy competed well in both of her matches. The wrestling program is working hard to build a team first, developmental and competitive culture for the boys and girls of their program to grow into champions down the road! At some point, maybe Jazzy or one of her teammates on the girls squad (Trinity Tyndall or Gabby Smith) will be the first ever girls sectional champion and find their picture on the wall next to several of the Musketeer's current coaching staff members. One thing is for sure, the Musketeer Wrestling program is hard at work to develop their wrestlers and team's culture!
