The Clarksville Generals topped the host Eastern Musketeers football team by a final score of 32-8 in Thursday's league battle. The Musketeers opened up the scoring in the 1st quarter as they drove down the field behind the running game of Sophomore Running Back, Cole Martin and Senior Quarterback, Cordell Hurst. The drive was capped off by a 12 yard scamper by Senior Kaleb Pacheco followed by a 2 yard conversion by Hust to put the Musketeers up 8-0. After the Generals scored on their opening drive, the Musketeers lead 8-6 with a chance to build their lead, but the first of four turnovers lead to a night of hard lessons for the Musketeers who were very competitive with the Generals, but struggled with sabotaging their opportunities with turnovers. The Musketeers would make a big play and then lose focus and cough the ball up. Coach Williams shared that he was please with the effort and fight of his guys and improvements from week 1 and that 'we will continue to work on controlling what we can control and not beating ourselves with silly mistakes.' The Musketeer offense was lead by Martin's 90 yards on 22 carries. Hurst chipped in 71 yards on 12 carries and threw for an additional 48 yards on 5 for 12 passes. Pacheco lead the way with 42 receiving yards on 2 catches. On the defensive side of the ball, the Musketeers contained Clarksville's sophomore standout, Caleb Hawkins well below his week 1 output against Henryville which earned him Area Player of the Week honors. Hawkins had a respectable 150 yards passing and 1 touchdown, which the Musketeers coaching staff was pleased with the defensive effort. Unfortunately, the four turnovers gave the Generals prime field position which lead to easy scores. Leading the defensive effort was Junior Chase Batt with 7 tackles. The sophomore trio of Jackson Hoffman, Kylan Roll and Axel Lee had 6 tackles each. Sophomore Boston Lee had 2 interceptions and sophomore Nash Keown had a fumble recovery and caused a fumble. The Musketeers now own a 0-2 record. They play next when they travel to Jennings County for a non-league battle on Friday, September 4. Eastern will encounter a Panthers team coming off a 42-6 non-league loss to Madison (Madison, IN). The Panthers record now stands at 1-1.
