The Lady Musketeers won a nail biter over former MSC rival, Austin, on Saturday afternoon at Charlestown. The game came down the final seconds with the Lady M's clinging to a 3-point lead while Austin had the ball. Eastern's defense held strong on the Lady Eagles sideline inbounds play as time expired on what was an exciting game of twists and turns. The Lady M's raced out to a 15-5 lead in the first quarter and it appeared they were on the brink of taking control of the game. Towards the end of the quarter, some missed opportunities allowed Austn to stop the bleeding and the quarter ended at 15-8 advantage Eastern. The second quarter belonged to the Lady Eagles who outscored Eastern 20-8 in the frame to take a 28-23 lead into halftime as Austin's all time leading scorer, Brynn Owens finished the half with 18 points. The third quarter was evenly played as the Lady M's appeared to figured out Austin's zone defense and handle their pressure a little better to right their ship heading into the final quarter down 39-35. In the fourth quarter, Eastern battled back and surged ahead thanks to tough defense, hard nosed rebounding and turning Austin's pressure into scoring opportunities. The final score was 52-49, Eastern Lady Musketeers as Sidney Burton lead the way with a double-double of 19 pts and 10 rebounds. Avery Smith flirted with a double double herself scoring 9 pts and getting 9 boards and hitting some clutch free throws down the stretch. Sister Addie Smith had a quiet game offensively with a line of 5 pts, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists, but dug in defensively, with the support of her teammates to help hold Owens to only 1 field goal in the second half. Katie Hauner had 9 pts, Bailee Robbins 5, Bailey Trainer 3 and Eliza Starrett 2. The Lady Musketeers had 11 blocks on the game as Addie Smith had 4, Avery Smith 3, Burton 2, while Hauner and Trainer had 1 each. While not quite as dominant on the boards as the sectional due to the scrappiness of the Lady Eagles, the Lady M's outrebounded Austin 37-30. This is the 2nd regional title for Lady M's hoops and the 2nd regional title for Eastern this year, as the volleyball team also won their regional at Charlestown earlier this school year. It is the 5th regional title in Eastern Athletics history joining the 2001 baseball team, the 2017 girls basketball team, the 2021 softball team and the 2025 volleyball team.
